15 August is celebrated as Independence Day in our country. The feeling of patriotism is awakened in the mind, on this day we remember the martyrs who liberated the country with respect. Our country became independent because of these patriots. The name of Mangal Pandey, the leader of the country’s revolution, is taken first of all. He sacrificed his life for the freedom of India, was first hanged on the noose. The talk is about when the British were the rulers of our country.
On the banks of the Hooghly river there was a cantonment of the British army in the city of Barrackpore. Mangal Pandey was recruited as the same soldier. He was a soft spoken soldier with a very calm and serious nature. The name of Shaheed Mangal Pandey, the hero of the historical revolution of 1857, may or may not be believed by anyone, but his name is inscribed in golden letters in the history of Indian freedom struggle. He started the great revolution by firing his first bullet and making his first sacrifice in the struggle against the British rule.
Mangal Pandey, son of Pandit Diwakar Pandey, was born on 19 July 1827 in village Nagwa in Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh. At the age of 22, on 10 May 1949, he was recruited as a soldier in the army of the East India Company, then he was posted in 34 Infantry Regiment Barrackpore. He was of a very healthy and fit body. He was famous for his bravery, courage and seriousness. His length was 8 feet two and a half inches. The great author Shri Amritlal Nagar’s book Gadar Ke Phool describes about his body structure, length, strength and power.
He was known as a good soldier in the army. English writer W.H. Free Set wrote in his book The Tale of the Great Mutiny (1901) that Mangal Pandey possessed the qualities of a good soldier. His mother Pujya Abhay Rani named her Abhay son Mangal after Devasena Nayak Mangal.
29 March 1857 was a Sunday. The news spread in the area of the Infantry Regiment Barrackpore Army that the European Army had arrived in India. The cantonment would be completely filled with white army and the Indian soldiers would be punished and thrown out of the army. Sepoy No. 1446 of Bengal Native Infantry Fifth Company Mangal Pandey, as soon as he got the news that the British had arrived, the soldiers’ caste was about to end, he came out of the barrack with his gun and took up his position in front of the quarter guard.
He also asked his colleagues to come along, Mangal Pandey challenged the British authority and said that we are not the bullocks of the crusher who plows us any way we want, nor are we the pigeons of Kabul who make us as vegetables as they please. We are proud Indian heroes. The British are bent on destroying our religion by snatching our Indian independence. We can never tolerate this. Brave friends of India, the cunning British are dominating you, wanting to defile us by giving us cartridges of fat, so that we can easily be converted into Christians.
Seeing the fierce form of Mangal Pandey, the officers of the 34th Regiment lost their sweat. He informed Lieutenant Bagh about this by sending a constable to Advent Tent’s residence. Lieutenant Bagh immediately took his sword and pistol riding on a horse and came in front of the quarter guard.
On 29 March 1857, the British, who defeated the Mughals, Peshwa Rajputs, Sikhs in the Battle of Plassey, plundered this country from 1757 to 1857, after 100 years on the British, this great brave son shot and laid the foundation of the Indian freedom struggle, Lieutenant Bagh , British Sir Gent Major, shot Piusion and declared a struggle for power.
Mangal Pandey said that I consider it my moral duty to sacrifice my life to protect my country and myself. Live with pride, die also with pride , we women, children will laugh. It is better to sacrifice for the country laughingly than to live in slavery. You give your blood, play Holi of blood, national interest is paramount, it will go to Firangi, the country will be free.
We will get freedom, I have full faith, even if it takes 100 years for the independence of the country, I am very fortunate that the opportunity of sacrificing my life in the service of Mother India is going to happen for the first time after some time. I pray to Mother India that I should be born in India only, I am a sacrifice on the gallows for the nation laughing and laughing for a hundred births, this is my last wish.
Pray to God that these idiots, liars, traitors want to stop the freedom struggle by hanging a mangal, now it is not going to stop. After today lakhs of Mangal Pandey will be ready all over India and will be sacrificed for the country’s independence. I have full faith that committing violence to protect the country and freedom is an act of great virtue.
Mangal Pandey Story You in Indian Revolutionary On April 5, 1857, during the ongoing debate in the Court Martial, expressed this view before the then English Judge, where the incident took place, an artillery team of 20 people was also on the job. Hearing the sound of firing, other soldiers also came in line in plain uniform, but except Sheikh Paltu, no one came forward to help the injured Bagh, rather the soldiers present there hit the injured British officer with the butt of their gun and When Shaikh Paltu asked to arrest Mangal Pandey, other soldiers abused him.
Meanwhile, Colonel MG Wheeler came to know about this incident, then he went to the quarter guard to face Mangal Pandey, but when he came to know that two Englishmen had been shot dead in an attempt to capture Mangal Pandey, he Seeing the fierce form of Mangal Pandey, he was shocked. He did not have the courage to move forward and ran away being frightened by Mangal Pandey. When Major, who was injured by the bullet, gave this news to General Hayer Se of the army, he started towards the field with his two sons serving in the army. Meanwhile, Division Staff Major Ras also reached the parade ground with one of his boys. By then a large crowd of soldiers had gathered there, but none of the soldiers supported Mangal Pade.
Despite this, the hero kept fighting for his honor and dignity. When Mangal Pandey saw that he was surrounded, he put the cord of his gun on his chest and pressed the horse with his foot and fell on the ground injured by the bullet. Blood started flowing from his body. He survived and was arrested as the wound was mild. On April 5, 1857, he was tried in a special court at 11:00 in the Mesh House of the 34 Regiment in Barrackpore itself, which lasted for three days. On the third day, on 7 April, under the signature of Major General Pehar, Commanding Officer of the Presidency Division, constable number 1446 Mangal Pandey was convicted and ordered the death penalty.
In this order, he was ordered to be hanged openly on the parade ground in the presence of all the soldiers of the army, so that no other soldier could face rebellion again. It is necessary to mention that the decision to hang Mangal Pandey had been taken even before the hearing in the court. The investigation proceedings were just a sham, so that public confidence is maintained. The important fact is that no executioner was ready to hang him. The executioners were called from Kolkata.
Inauspicious day on 8th April 1857 at 5:30 am, Mangal Pandey with special guards was hanged at the Parade Ground Barrackpore in front of the soldiers at the very young age of 26 years, 2 months and 9 days. Thus Mangal Pandey sacrificed his life.

There was no wrinkle on his face while putting the noose around his neck.
