War between border countries is not a new thing. This has been happening for a long time. Earlier the war was fought with arrows and swords, now war is being fought with modern weapons, even dangerous weapons like atom bomb and nuclear. The way Russian President Putin has ordered his nuclear weapon driver to be put on high alert, reminds us of the horrors of the war, the mere discussion of which still haunts Japanese citizens. This also happens because there is a desire in almost all the countries of the world that it should expand its borders as much as possible or the neighboring country should do it.
Japan has to be discussed here because during my visit to Japan, I have seen both the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki up close and interacted with the local people there. Spent days in both those cities, as well as visited the museum in Hiroshima, which has been built in memory of those days. No one was found in the two cities who said that Hiroshima on August 6, 1945 and Nagasaki on August 9, 1945, had no casualties of their own when America dropped atomic bombs on these two cities. Hearing the events of those days in his words, even a stone hearted person can get distracted.
In Hiroshima, 3.75 lakh and in Nagasaki 74 thousand civilians were killed in the instantaneous period. Atomic Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki On the morning of August 6, 1945, the US Air Force dropped the atomic bomb ‘Little Boy’ on Hiroshima, Japan. Three days later, the US dropped the ‘Fat Man’ atomic bomb on the city of Nagasaki. The atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima was called ‘Little Boy’ in reference to former US President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and the Nagasaki bomb was called ‘Fat Man’ in reference to Winston Churchill.
The discussion of ‘Little Boy’ and ‘Fat Man’ is here because, what will be the end of the war which has broken out between Russia and Ukraine to prove their power, to maintain their supremacy, it is not yet estimated, Because this war is not less of big and small countries, but the result of the confrontation of two superpowers of the world.
The US has also released millions of dollars for immediate aid to Ukraine last Saturday. At the same time, it has also assured that help will continue to defend Ukraine from various types of attacks. In such a situation, it can be said that Russia is stuck in a long war in Ukraine.
US President Joe Biden says that if a country comes in favor of Russia, then it will have to do two hands with America. The US president also said that he had no intention of sending troops to the war in Ukraine, but was increasing military deployment to NATO member states that are close to Russia – Poland, Romania, Hungary and the Balkans. If Russia attacks NATO countries, America will also join the war and give a tough answer. Joe Biden said, NATO is united and ready for any challenge.
After the announcement of the US President, Russia hardly thinks of colliding with a superpower like America including NATO countries. Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the nation last Friday after a meeting of the National Security Council, saying he did not intend to annex Ukraine, but that Russia’s security would not be compromised either. We will not allow Ukraine to develop nuclear weapons at any cost.
On the other hand, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky admitted that he could not hold the Russian army for long. He has appealed to the world for help. In response, the US, the European Union and NATO have condemned Russia’s actions and announced economic sanctions on it, which will show effect after months and years. Russia has said that it will deal with these sanctions.
India’s relations with Russia have always been cordial. Whenever there was any calamity on India, Russia always stood behind India, supported. Andrei Gromiko, the Foreign Minister of the Soviet Union, came to India and in the year 1971 he signed the Soviet-India Peace, Friendship and Cooperation Treaty with the then Foreign Minister of India, Sardar Swaran Singh. The treaty became a ‘milestone’ in the friendly relations between the two countries.
Soon after this treaty, the Soviet Union declared that an attack on India would be considered an attack on it. This is the reason why the US naval fleet did not dare to attack India during the 1971 war. In many more rare moments, Russia maintained its friendship. In return for all these favors and help, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has talked to Russian President Putin and President of Ukraine Zelesky and urged them to end the war.
As time goes on, Russia’s offensive has intensified by encircling Ukraine, especially the capital Kyiv, from three sides. India is also in a dilemma because thousands of its students are trapped in Ukraine. However, gradually the efforts of the Government of India are succeeding and Indian students are returning home after facing various calamities. There is no doubt that from Prime Minister to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has also asked his Russian counterpart to avert the crisis.
Jaishankar has also suggested the US counterpart to take the initiative for talks. Many countries of the world including NATO have proposed peace talks to both the countries to prevent the threat of war. But, in the atmosphere that has been created, it does not seem that there will be an immediate ceasefire and peace will be established between the two countries, because all the thirty NATO countries have decided to give arms to Ukraine and they have cyber attack on Russia. The attack has also started. Then how can Russia sit still? It has also started targeting foreign cargo ships.
Ukrainian President Bolodimir Zelensky has made it clear that his army will not surrender to Russia, but is ready to talk to Russia on a ceasefire, while Russia is ready to talk to the Ukrainian government on the condition of surrender. Zaleski has said that he is standing on his land and performing the duty of protecting it. The president has asked for arms help from the countries that aid him. The US has said that Russia wants to negotiate with Ukraine on the basis of a gun, which is unacceptable.
Let us inform that on the Russia-Ukraine dispute, retired Additional Secretary of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs KM Lal has said in his statement given in a newspaper that even after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Russia’s power has not decreased much. He still considers himself a super power. He doesn’t want NATO to reach his door. After becoming a member of NATO, Ukraine will gradually become strategically stronger, which is not acceptable to Russia. This is the reason why Russia has attacked Ukraine. Unfortunately, Ukraine is not able to get the support of its people as well, because half of the population is of Russian origin.
Now such a situation has come that Russia and Ukraine are now standing on the verge of world war. India also seems to be caught in this now, because a situation has come in front of India in which it is forced to think on whose side it should enter the war – with Russia or with Ukraine.
