Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Tuesday asked the government to clarify whether US President Donald Trump’s claims to stop military action between India and Pakistan are true or just pretending. He questioned whether India had lost aircraft in Operation Sindoor.
In an interview with PTI videos, the former Union Home Minister expressed concern that no country came openly in support of India after India’s attacks on terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan -occupied Kashmir (POK) on May 7. He said that China’s support to Islamabad is also a matter of concern.
Describing Trump’s claim of ending enmity between India and Pakistan and stopping the nuclear war as “very complicated”, he said that the Government of India should clarify on these claims. Chidambaram also said that Trump is a “uninvited guest” in matters between India and Pakistan.
He demanded the government to call an all -party meeting and Parliament session and answer the opposition’s questions. He said that both the all -party meeting and the session of Parliament were necessary, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not attend all -party meetings on 24 April and 7 May. He said that the Prime Minister should have participated in those meetings.
He said, “The Prime Minister should call an all -party meeting and some part of the session (of Parliament) may also be a closed session. At least the leaders should give information about the real situation. There are many questions asked.”
Chidambaram said, “Army and Air Force officials have practically acknowledged that we have suffered some damage. Although I do not accept Pakistan’s exaggerated claims, but in the event of war, both sides will have to lose some equipment. Have we lost aircraft? Have we lost the aircraft? Do we have been damaged? All these opposition leaders should be told.”
The PTI Congress leader said in the video, “And the role of President Trump should also be clear and President Trump’s latest message is ‘If you don’t stop, I will not do business with you. I stopped the nuclear war.’ Now all this, is this exaggeration and self-appreciation or is there any element of truth in it?
