Jammu, Aug 31 (IANS) Ahead of the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir’s Chenab Valley, senior Army officials on Saturday reviewed the security situation in the region.
In the first phase of the three-phase assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, voting is scheduled to be held on September 18 in the assembly constituencies of Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts of Jammu division.
Lieutenant General Naveen Sachdeva, General Officer Commanding (GoC) of the Nagrota (Jammu)-based White Knight Corps, also reviewed the three-day annual Kailash Kund Yatra, which began from Duddu-Basantgarh in Udhampur district on Friday amid tight vigilance and aerial surveillance.
The White Knight Corps said on its official ex-post page that Lt Gen Sachdeva reviewed the operational preparedness in Suigarh and Patnaji sectors of Doda-Kishtwar with the GoC, counter-terrorism Delta Force.
The Army said that during the visit, he (Lt Gen Sachdeva) complimented the troops for the tenacity and professional conduct displayed during the operation.
“The GoC also assessed the Kailash Kund Yatra. Security forces are keeping a strict vigil and aerial platforms are being used for surveillance,” the Army said.
Eight assembly constituencies spread across Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts in the Chenab Valley region as well as 16 seats in Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam districts in south Kashmir will go to polls in the first phase on September 18.
There have been terror attacks against the Army, security forces and civilians in the hilly districts of Poonch, Rajouri, Doda, Kathua, Reasi and Udhampur in the Jammu division during the last two months.
