Lucknow, December 18 (IANS). A Congress worker died on Wednesday during the siege of Uttar Pradesh Assembly. Activist Prabhat Pandey had come to Lucknow to join the protest. His body was taken to the civil hospital. Where after some time Congress State President Ajay Rai also reached.
Ajay Rai said that we are people who believe in the ideology of Gandhiji. We were going towards the assembly with the intention of registering our protest peacefully. But the Chief Minister of the state, with the intention of suppressing the voice of the Congressmen, put Congress workers across the state under house arrest a day before. At the same time, pressure was being created not to come to Lucknow.
State Congress President said that we demand from the state government that the Chief Minister should provide financial assistance of Rs 1 crore to the family of deceased Prabhat Pandey and a government job to one member of the family.
On the other hand, Lucknow Commissionerate’s DCP Raveena Tyagi said that Gorakhpur resident Prabhat Pandey was brought from the Congress office to the Civil Hospital in an unconscious state, where doctors declared him dead. According to doctors, no injury was found on his body. The post-mortem of the dead body will be videographed. Police will take further legal action.
Before this, Congress leaders, who were preparing to march to Lucknow to surround the Assembly, were stopped in different districts of the state on Wednesday and senior leaders were put under house arrest.
The Congressmen who reached the party office in Lucknow were arrested by the police and taken to Eco Garden and released. At the same time, the leaders who tried to reach Vidhan Bhavan were also arrested by the police. State Congress President Ajay Rai, who was going to gherao, was arrested by the police. After returning from the protest, Ajay Rai reached Civil Hospital.
