After the defeat in West Bengal elections, Mamata Banerjee’s troubles do not seem to be reducing. Differences in TMC are now coming out openly; After the rebellion of the MLAs, there are reports that a group of MPs has also come in support of the NDA. Meanwhile, angry TMC faction leader and Lok Sabha MP Kakoli Ghosh has issued a statement on the allegations of opportunism leveled against her.
‘I have suffered a lot…’
Speaking to news agency ANI, Ghosh said that his decision to part ways with TMC was taken due to his deep dissatisfaction with the current condition of the party and the way it is functioning in West Bengal. He stressed his decades-long commitment to Bengal and his resolve to choose an independent path, and cited ‘misgovernance, anarchy and unemployment’ in the state as the main reasons for the differences.

Denied allegations of opportunism
Rejecting allegations of opportunism, she said, “My head may be cut off, but it will not bow down. I have suffered a lot. I have not reached here after Mamata Banerjee became the chief minister in 2011; I have been struggling here for 40 years. And as I said, the words of such people have no effect on me.”
‘The country’s issue is most important for us’
Putting aside internal political speculations, he further said that his main focus is on national interests and the security of the country. He said, “We will see what happens next. For now, is it not enough that we want to work for Bengal, for the country and want to keep India safe? This is an important issue; for us the cause of the country is above all.”
‘I was sidelined’
Ghosh also expressed his displeasure over the treatment meted out to him after he resigned from the post of district president after his defeat in the elections. He said, “I took personal responsibility for the poor results, perhaps I didn’t play my role properly, and so I resigned. Yet, after that no one came to see me, no one called me.” “I was just pushed to the side.” Rebel TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh on Monday (June 8) announced that a group of 20 MPs have formally requested the Lok Sabha Speaker to make separate seating arrangements, and said they will not bow to political pressure.
