New Delhi, September 11 (IANS). Politics has heated up over the speech given by Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Sikhs in Virginia, USA. BJP has strongly condemned this statement of Rahul Gandhi. Congress leader Pawan Khera has hit back at the Bharatiya Janata Party by expressing support for Rahul Gandhi’s statement in this matter.
Pawan Khera, while talking to IANS, said, “Rahul Gandhi made a statement in America that Sikhs should have the freedom to wear turbans, we will fight for this. Should Sikhs not have the freedom to wear turbans in the country? This is the same party whose leaders and the country’s Prime Minister talk about identifying people by their clothes. This is the same party whose leaders talk about beating up Muslims. An elderly Muslim was beaten and killed by people with similar mentality in a train because he had a beard. These people killed a young man in Haryana and after killing him said that we felt very sorry because this person was not a Muslim.”
He further said, is it wrong to speak against such incidents? We will speak against such incidents because it is written in the Constitution that it is our duty to protect the identity of every person and we will do that.
It is known that, while talking to the people in Virginia, America, Rahul Gandhi had said, ‘First of all you people have to understand what the fight is about. This fight is not about politics. The fight is about what is your name, will those people be allowed to wear a turban in India as a Sikh? Will they be allowed to wear a Kada in India as a Sikh? Will a Sikh be able to go to the Gurudwara? Our fight is about this and we are not fighting only for them, but for all religions.
