Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said in a special MP/MLA court in Pune that his life was in danger. His statement was related to the political controversies between him and the complainant Satyaki Savarkar and the background of Savarkar’s family. The matter arose when a speech by Rahul Gandhi in March 2023 in London was allegedly remaried against Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.
In his petition, Rahul Gandhi, which was filed through his lawyer Milind Dattatreya Pawar, demanded security security from the state. Describing it as a constitutional obligation, he said that this step is necessary to maintain the fairness and transparency of the case.
Raising an important aspect in this matter, Rahul Gandhi said that the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi was the result of a well thought out conspiracy. He also wrote in the petition that Satyaki Savarkar had admitted in a statement on July 29 that he was Nathuram Godse and Gopal Godse, who was the killer of Mahatma Gandhi, and Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.
Keeping this in mind, Rahul Gandhi’s petition also said that the history of violent and anti -constitutional tendencies associated with the complainant’s lineage can cause a serious threat to Rahul Gandhi. He also warned that Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination was part of a conspiracy under a specific ideology and repetition of such incidents should be avoided.
Defamation case against Rahul Gandhi
The matter began when Rahul Gandhi said during a speech in London that Vinayak Damodar Savarkar attacked a Muslim person and described it as enjoyable. He claimed this based on Savarkar’s alleged articles. However, Satyaki Savarkar denied it and described it as a false, misleading and defamatory.
Now, Satyaki Savarkar is demanding to convict him under Section 500 of IPC and compensate him under Section 357 of the Criminal Procedure Code on charges of defamation of Rahul Gandhi. The next hearing of the case will be held on 10 September.
