Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi resumed ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ on his eighth day in Purnia district of Bihar on Sunday with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav.

The two leaders rode motorcycles during the ‘Yatra’, which aims to highlight alleged irregularities in the special intensive revision (SIR) of voter lists in the state.

The yatra will reach Araria via Panchmukhi Temple, Forbesganj Road, Hope Hospital Chowk, Rambagh, Kasba Bazar and Zero Mile, where Rahul Gandhi, Tejashwi Yadav, CPI (ML) Liberation General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya and Vikas Human Party founder Mukesh Sahni will address a press conference at 11.30 am.

Addressing supporters in Katihar on Saturday, Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP of tampering with “institutions” and “media” to suppress the voice of the poor.

Raising the slogan of “Vote Chor Gaddi Quit”, the Congress leader told the attendees, “This is not your media.

Speaking in this program, Tejashwi Yadav attacked the BJP -led central government over corruption.

Yadav said, “So far these officers and corrupt government have taken only Rs 4,000 crore to get residential certificate and caste certificate. BJP people will use this money in elections. That is why corruption is increasing continuously.”

He said, “We will work to give corruption -free, crime -free government.”

The 16 -day ‘Voter Rights Yatra’ of 1,300 km has been launched in 20 districts by opposition parties in protest against the special intensive revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar. He claims that this is an attempt to steal vote. The journey will end in Patna on 1 September.

Bihar assembly elections are scheduled to be held later this year, although the Election Commission of India (ECI) has not yet announced the program.
