Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, who banned the 2011 decision to ban Salwa Judum movement, Justice B.C. Sudarshan Reddy targeted and claimed that Naxalite violence increased after this decision.
On Friday, Sharma gave a lecture on the subject of ‘Naxal challenge in Chhattisgarh’ organized by Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini, saying, “Panic spread in Bastar after the 2011 decision. There was a flood of murders by Naxalites in the entire area and thousands of people fell victim to it. Many people were shot, disabled or strangled to death. ”
The BJP leader said, “I would like to tell that the judge who gave the verdict is the Vice Presidential candidate today.” The people of Bastar have asked me whether this candidate for the post of Vice President is the same judge? He remembers his name. How can anyone accept such a person? ”He said that the Salwa Judum movement started in response to the atrocities committed by Naxalites in Bastar.
He said, “The villagers had set up camps from Naxalites without any government help for their safety, although the government later started providing some assistance. This movement was completely run by the public. The word Salwa Judum means ‘peace restoration’. ”
People associated with the movement opposed the Naxalites and asked them to leave the village. Sharma said that when the Naxalites started attacking these camps, the government started appointing members of the movement as Special Police Officer (SPO).
He said that in 2011, Justice Reddy had given a verdict that the establishment of Salwa Judum was wrong and had described it as an unconstitutional parallel system and ordered to end it.
Sharma said that this decision was not based on concrete legal arguments, but it was largely based on academic arguments. He said, “The people of Bastar still say that the Supreme Court listened to the arguments of the petitioners and the police in Delhi, but their voice was never heard.” The court pronounced the verdict without listening to the most affected people. ”
