Sonia Gandhi on Iran Israel Attack: Congress chairperson Sonia Gandhi has strongly criticized India’s silence on the matter, condemning the Israeli attacks on Iran. He wrote an article in ‘The Hindu’ clearly stated that Israel is a nuclear power itself, but Iran, who does not have nuclear weapons, is being targeted. This is the dual policy of Israel.

Targeting the Modi government, Sonia Gandhi further said that the silence of the Government of India shows that India is withdrawing from its moral and diplomatic traditions. It is not just a matter of losing voice, but also a renunciation of values.

Israel’s attack illegal- Sonia Gandhi

Sonia Gandhi, condemning the Israeli attack on the Iranian region on 13 June 2025, described it as an illegal and a violation of Iran’s sovereignty. He wrote, ‘Congress strongly condemns these attacks on Iran’s land, as it can increase serious instability at regional and globally. Like the attack on Gaza, this Israeli operation is also “cruel and unilateral”, which has completely ignored the life and regional stability of ordinary citizens. ‘

The most shocking thing is that this attack took place at a time when diplomatic talks were going on between Iran and America and there were good signs. This year, there have been five rounds before the nuclear dialogue in 2025 and now the sixth round of talks were to be held in June. In March, the director of the US National Intelligence told in Parliament that Iran has not been working on making nuclear weapons and since 2003 his Supreme Leader has not allowed it to be resumed. In such a situation, this attack questions Benjamin Netanyahu’s intention.

Netanyahu and Trump also targeted

Sonia Gandhi, while targeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said that history reminds us that Netanyahu helped to fly to the fire of hatred.

He also regretted US President Donald Trump and said that Trump’s denying his own intelligence agency report, claiming that Iran is very close to acquiring nuclear weapons, is extremely disappointing.

Iran is an old friend of India- Sonia Gandhi

Sonia Gandhi further reminded that Iran has been an old and deep friend of India, who supported India on the issue of Jammu and Kashmir in 1994. He said that Israeli’s action is fully supported by Western countries and there is no accountability. The Congress condemned the Hamas attack on 7 October 2023, but cannot remain silent on the human tragedy of more than 55,000 Palestinians in Gaza, destruction of entire families and hospitals, and starvation.

Sonia Gandhi further said that in front of this human disaster, the Modi government accused India of leaving India’s commitment to ‘Two-State Solution’ almost completely. He said, “The silence of the Government of India shows that India is removing its moral and diplomatic traditions. It is not just a matter of losing voice, but also a sacrifice of values.”

Still not late- Sonia Gandhi

Finally, Sonia Gandhi once again insisted that it is still not late. He said, “India should speak clearly, behave responsibly and use every diplomatic medium so that stress can be reduced and interactions in West Asia can be promoted.”
