Asian shooting championship: India’s Kapil Bainsla won the first gold medal for India at the 16th Asian Shooting Championships released at Shyamkant in Kazakhstan. The Haryana shooter secured the first position in the 10 meter air pistol junior final on Monday to secure 243.0 points. After Kapil, Ilkombek Obidzonov of Uzbekistan finished second with 242.4 points. Jonathan Gavin Anthony of Karnataka finished third with 220.7 points and won the bronze medal.

Uzbekistan’s Ilkombeck made the fastest start in the final, but Kapil gave a tough fight with him. After the first 15 shots, Kapil overtook Ilkombeck, but Ilkombeck again took the lead after the 20th shot. However, in the final shots, Kapil scored a great points of 10.8 and 10.6, while Ilkombeck scored 10.4 on 23rd shot and 9.4 on the last shot. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Kapil won the gold medal.
Kapil and Jonathan along with Vijay Tomar also won silver medals at the team event. The Indian team scored a total of 1723 points. Korea won the gold medal with 1734 points, while Kazakhstan won the bronze medal. India’s shooter Anmol Jain (155.1 points) finished sixth in the Senior Mains final, while Hu Kai of China won the gold medal. Anmol, along with Aditya Malra and Saurabh Chaudhary, won the silver medal at the team event with 1735 points. Women and junior women air pistol finals will be played on Tuesday.
