Australian cricketer Andrew Symonds is no more, lost his life in a road accident

Former Australian cricketer Andrew Symonds is no more. He was 46 years old. It was told by Cricket Australia that he lost his life in a road accident. The accident happened on Saturday (May 14, 2022) night. He was then the victim of a car crash near Townsville in North Eastern Australia.

Police confirmed that he had died on the spot. According to the statement, “Preliminary information suggests that the car was on Herve Range Road at 11 pm. As she came off the road near the Ellis River Bridge, she suddenly overturned.”

Simmonds was driving the vehicle at the time of the incident. It was also said that emergency services tried to rescue them, but they were unsuccessful. Police have said that the Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the matter.

On behalf of Cricket Australia, regret was conveyed while reporting the death of Symonds.

As soon as his friends and old comrades learned of Symonds’ death, they were stunned. After this there was a wave of mourning in the cricket world. Adam Gilchrist, former wicketkeeper and batsman of the Kangaroo team, tweeted expressing grief over the information and said, “This (accident/event) really hurts.”

Shoaib Akhtar, who was a Pakistani bowler known as Rawalpindi Express, also mourned his death. He tweeted, “Shocked to hear of the death of Symonds in a car crash. We had a great relationship on and off the field. My prayers and condolences are with his family.”

Symonds has been in the limelight due to controversies with his scores and shots. Be it his drinking addiction or the “Monkey Gate” case. Actually, India and Australia had a Test match in 2008. Meanwhile, Symonds alleged that Hindustani off-spin bowler Harbhajan Singh called him a monkey. However, Bhajji got a clean chit after hearing the case. But this whole matter was making a lot of headlines and then it was called ‘Monkey Gate’.
