Badminton Association of India (BAI) President Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday announced a total prize money of Rs 1 crore for the Thomas Cup winning Indian men’s team. The Indian men’s team scripted history with a 3-0 win over 14-time champions Indonesia, becoming the sixth nation to win the coveted Thomas Cup trophy. India has won the title for the first time in the 73-year history of this tournament. Sarma also announced a prize money of Rs 20 lakh for the support staff.
In his statement, Sarma said, “It is a very proud moment for Indian badminton. We have won many individual victories but winning the Thomas Cup crown is very special. It shows the depth of our talent among men.
