Virat Kohli’s poor form is troublesome for former Indian cricket team captain Kapil Dev. Kapil Dev says that as a former player, if a player is not reaching his mark, then he has the right to question the performance of that player. Kapil Dev has been vocal about Virat Kohli’s struggle. As a result he has also faced criticism for his comments in the past. Despite this, the former all-rounder of the Indian cricket team insisted that if players do not score runs or perform at the level that is expected of them, then they can do the same to silence others.
Kapil Dev said on the YouTube channel of ‘Uncut’, ‘I have not played cricket as much as Virat Kohli. It is true that sometimes you may not have played enough cricket, but you can try to understand things. Either that, or we cannot criticize such great players. We have played cricket and we understand the game.
Kapil Dev said, ‘In future he will have to improve his thought process, not ours’. If you prove us wrong, we’d love it. If you don’t score runs, we think there is something wrong with it. We only see one thing and that is your performance. And if there is no performance, don’t expect people to remain silent. Your bat and your performance should speak and nothing else.
During the conversation, Kapil Dev said that it hurts him to see a player in the category of Virat Kohli without a century for so long. The last time Kohli scored an international century was in November of 2019. His form with the bat has also been poor. There is a big question mark on the lack of runs of the former captain of the Indian cricket team. Kapil Dev feels that this is becoming a big cause of concern for both Indian cricket and his fans.
Kapil Dev said, ‘It makes me sad to see such a big player passing without a century for such a long gap. He is like a hero to us. We never thought that we would see a player whom we could compare with Sunil Gavaskar, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag. Then he (Virat Kohli) came and forced us to compare. Now since he has been out of form for the last two years, this thing is bothering me and all of us.
