Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has appointed Faf du Plessis as their new captain for IPL 2022. The franchise shared this information on its official Twitter account. At the same time, a video message of Virat Kohli was also shared by the franchise, in which Virat is giving information about du Plessis being made the captain.
Virat Kohli says in this video that, we are going to start our season soon. We are very much looking forward to the new season and the most important news is that Faf Du Plessis will be our new captain. He is my good friend. I have a good relationship with him apart from sports. I look forward to playing under his leadership.
Faf du Plessis was bought by RCB in the IPL 2022 mega auction for Rs 7 crore. He was part of Chennai Super Kings last season and was just 2 runs behind the highest run-scorer Rituraj Gaikwad. He scored 633 runs in 16 matches and played a key role in making Chennai the champions.
Talking about his IPL career, he has played 100 matches so far, in which he has 2935 runs in his name in 93 innings. He has also scored 2 half-centuries. Prior to RCB, he was also a part of Chennai Super Kings and Rising Pune Supergiants. If we look at T20 International, he has scored 1528 runs in 50 matches.
Let us tell you that even before the second phase of IPL 2021, Virat Kohli had decided that IPL 14 is his last season as captain. Earlier, he had also decided to step down from the captaincy of India’s T20 team. After this the board took the captaincy of ODI from him. Later, Virat also left the captaincy of the Test. Rohit Sharma was appointed India’s regular captain in all three formats.
