On 23 March 2022, three days before the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022), Lucknow Super Giants has taken Australia’s fast bowler Andrew Toy to England’s fast bowler Mark Wood. Mark Wood has been ruled out of IPL 2022 due to injury. 35-year-old Andrew Toy was instrumental in making the Perth Scorchers the champions of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2021-22. He took 3 wickets for 15 runs against Sydney Sixers in the final.
Andrew Toy was at number three in the list of highest wicket takers in BBL 2021-22. He took 25 wickets in 16 matches at an average of 16.96. He also took 5 wickets in a match. Andrew Toy was the Purple Cap winner in IPL 2018. Andrew Toy played for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) that season, taking 24 wickets in 14 matches at an average of 18.66 and an economy of 8.00. That season Rashid Khan was at number two.
While Andrew Toy is the top wicket-taker of IPL 2018, on the one hand, Lucknow Super Giants also have the No. 2 wicket-taker of IPL 2021. Avesh Khan is in the team of Lucknow. Avesh Khan took 24 wickets in 16 matches in IPL 2021 at an average of 18.75 and an economy of 7.37. Apart from this, Lucknow Super Giants also have recognized specialist fast bowling options in Sri Lanka’s Dushmantha Chamira and Ankit Rajput. He will also expect all-round performances from Jason Holder, Marcus Stoinis and Kyle Meyers.
It was earlier expected that Mark Wood would join the Lucknow Super Giants after the ongoing West Indies tour of England. But after the first test match against West Indies, Mark Wood fell victim to an elbow injury and he was away from cricket for the foreseeable future. Lucknow Super Giants will start their campaign in IPL 2022 with a match against Gujarat Titans on March 28.
