Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will announce their new captain for IPL 2022 in a press conference on March 12 at 4 PM. A day earlier, former RCB captain Daniel Vettori while talking to ESPN Cricinfo said that Virat Kohli will not captain the franchise again. Also, Glenn Maxwell will be out of some early matches due to his marriage. In such a situation, it is believed that Faf du Plessis becomes the captain.
While sharing a teaser on its official Twitter page, RCB informed that the franchise will have an event named ‘RCB Unbox’ on March 12. According to Inside Sports, on this day the franchise will meet the media on the occasion of turning 14 and announce the captain. Earlier this announcement was to be made on March 8 but now it has been pushed forward.
Glenn Maxwell is going to marry Vini Raman on March 27. Also, according to the NOC issued by Cricket Australia, all centrally contracted Kangaroo players can join the Indian league from 6 April. In such a situation, the franchise would like to go with a regular captain instead of a substitute captain at the start of the tournament.
At the same time, Virat Kohli had decided to step down from the captaincy of both India’s T20 team and IPL franchise after the last IPL. Recently there were also reports that Virat is being persuaded to captain the team again but this is not possible keeping in mind Daniel Vettori’s statement and Kohli’s nature. Dinesh Karthik’s name was also coming up but KKR’s performance under his leadership became a backdrop for him.
Also, the strongest aspect for Faf du Plessis is that after Virat Kohli, he is the only player within the team to have a great experience of captaining at the international level. Although he has retired from international cricket, no one can forget his performance for Chennai Super Kings last year. Apart from this, he will also be available for the entire IPL season.
On Monday, Daniel Vettori said in a conversation with ESPN Cricinfo that, I do not think that this ever happens in franchise cricket. Once the captain has decided to proceed, he has done so. That’s why it is difficult for Virat Kohli to get the captaincy. But du Plessis, Kohli, Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik will also be part of the leadership group.
