Rajasthan Royals lost to Gujarat Titans in the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Sunday but their star players Jos Buttler and Yuzvendra Chahal grabbed the Orange Cap and Purple Cap. This is only the third time in the history of IPL that the highest run-scorer and highest wicket-taker in a season are from the same team.
The England player scored a total of 863 runs in 17 matches at an average of 57.53 and a strike rate of 149.05. Lucknow Supergiants captain KL Rahul finished second with 616 runs. Yuzvendra Chahal took 27 wickets in 17 matches at an economy of 7.75 at 19.51 to win the Purple Cap in the 15th season. He was followed by Royal Challengers Bangalore spinner Wanindu Hasaranga who took 26 wickets.
In 2013, Michael Hussey of Chennai Super Kings won the Orange Cap with 733 runs, while his teammate Dwayne Bravo grabbed the Purple Cap with 32 wickets. This feat was repeated for the second time in the history of the tournament in IPL 2017. David Warner of Sunrisers Hyderabad won the Orange Cap with 641 runs and his teammate Bhuvneshwar Kumar bagged the Purple Cap with 26 wickets in the season.
Third spinner to win Purple Cap – Yuzvendra Chahal is only the third and second Indian spinner in IPL history to win the Purple Cap. Prior to this, Pragyan Ojha took 21 wickets while playing for Deccan Chargers in the year 2010 and Imran Tahir took 26 wickets while playing for Chennai Super Kings in the year 2019.

First he took 3 wickets for 17 runs and then played an innings of 34 runs. With the help of this, Gujarat Titans won the title by defeating Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Apart from Hardik, Shubman Gill scored 45 runs and chased down the modest target of 131 runs in 18.1 overs.
