Madrid Open: 19-year-old Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz defeated world number one tennis player Novak Djokovic to make his place in the final of Madrid Open tennis. Alcarez also created history by becoming the first player to defeat Rafael Nadal and Djokovic in the same tournament. In his second ATP Masters final in five weeks, Alcarez defeated current world number one Novak Djokovic 6-7 (5/7), 7-5, 7-6 (7/5). This is the first victory of the Spanish player against Djokovic so far.
Alcarez has registered victories against seven of the top-10 players this season. Alcarez will now face defending champion Alexander Zverev in the final of the Madrid Open. Zverev has been winning consecutively for the last nine matches. Alcarez has become the first player in 17-year history to beat a world number one player.
In another semi-final, Zverev defeated world No. 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas of Egypt 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 to seal his place in the final of the Madrid Open for the third time. Germany’s Zverev has previously won the Madrid Open title in 2018 and 2021. He has won both the last matches against Alcarez.
