Winning a gold medal at the Olympic Games is a real achievement for any athlete but India’s javelin thrower star Neeraj Chopra says his best is yet to come and he hopes to achieve the 90m mark in this year’s events. Will try
At the Tokyo Olympic Games last year, the 24-year-old Chopra won India’s first Olympic gold medal in athletics with an effort of 87.58m in the men’s javelin throw. He became the second Indian after shooter Abhinav Bindra to win an individual gold medal at the Olympics.
Chopra said her goals for this year are a medal at the World Championships and defending her titles at the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games besides throwing the javelin beyond 90 meters.
Chopra told a sports website, “I always feel that the performance I have done so far and whatever I have achieved is not the best. I think I can actually do better than this in the future. It’s good to see that the entire nation believes in me and has high expectations from me.
He said, “I have been trying to reach 90 meters for a long time. I think I may actually do that in the near future. There is no pressure on me to throw the javelin beyond 90 metres, but I will work on my technique with my strength and speed to achieve it this year.” Chopra’s personal best is 88.03 metres.
