Preity Zinta’s franchise Punjab Kings has geared up ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) starting from March 26. The franchise has appointed former England first-class cricketer Julian Ross Wood as its batting consultant to focus on ‘power-hitting’. Wood has previously coached stormy batsmen like Ben Stokes and Carlos Brathwaite.
Let us tell you that Julian Ross Wood is considered an expert in ‘power-hitting’ coaching. Apart from the players of IPL, he has also worked in Big Bash League and other T20 leagues. Wood has coached Ben Stokes, Prithvi Shaw, Sam Billings and Carlos Brathwaite as a personal mentor to ‘power-hitting’ tricks.
In the coming season, Wood, along with Punjab’s assistant coach Jonty Rhodes, will be adept at hitting the ball out of the park by keeping the batsmen steady at the crease. “Happy to announce that Julian Ross Wood will be our new batting consultant for this season,” the team wrote on their social media handle.
It is worth noting that Punjab Kings have not won the IPL title even once after the last 14 seasons. Preity Zinta’s franchise is busy preparing in full swing this time. In the Mega Auction too, Punjab Kings had entered with the heaviest purse and bid fiercely on the players one after the other. Mayank Agarwal has been appointed as the captain of this team after KL Rahul.
Apart from this, the franchise has roped in star cricketers like Shikhar Dhawan, Jonny Bairstow, Kagiso Rabada and Odeon Smith this year. At the same time, Punjab has also added Liam Livingstone, the most expensive foreign player sold in this season’s auction, at a huge price of Rs 11.50 crore.
