The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday (July 6, 2022) announced that Shikhar Dhawan will lead the Indian team in a three-match ODI series on the West Indies tour later this month. Ravindra Jadeja has been made the vice-captain of the team. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah will not play in the ODI series against West Indies. He has been rested for the series.
The All India Senior Selection Committee of BCCI has selected Team India for the 3-match ODI series against West Indies to be played at Queens Park Oval, Port of Spain and Trinidad. The BCCI has not yet announced the team for the T20 series.
Dhawan led the Indian team in three ODIs on the tour of Sri Lanka last year. Sanju Samson returned to the team as the second wicketkeeper in place of Rishabh Pant. Fast bowler Arshdeep Singh, who was included for the ODIs against England, retained his place. Spin bowling all-rounder Deepak Hooda is also included in the team along with Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel.
India’s tour of the West Indies and the United States will begin on July 22 with an ODI in Trinidad. Team India will later play five T20 Internationals against the two-time world champions in Trinidad, St Kitts and Lauderhill (Florida). The last two matches of the series will be played in Florida on 6 and 7 August 2022.
Team India selected for ODI series against West Indies is as follows: Shikhar Dhawan (Captain), Rituraj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Deepak Hooda, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan (WK), Sanju Samson (WK), Ravindra Jadeja (Vice-Captain), Shardul Thakur, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Avesh Khan, Famous Krishna, Mohammad Siraj, Arshdeep Singh.
Kohli-Bumrah will not play in T20 series either
According to the news, BCCI has made a special plan regarding the T20 World Cup. In preparation for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, star batsman Virat Kohli and pacer Jasprit Bumrah are likely to be rested for India’s tour of the West Indies, news agency ANI quoted sources as saying.
Actually, before the T20 World Cup to be held in Australia this year, Team India will play its last T20 series against West Indies. In such a situation, the board does not want to take any risk regarding its main players in any way. Perhaps this is the reason why he is considering resting Kohli and Bumrah from the T20 series.
