Sarfaraz Khan, the new ‘run-machine’ of domestic and Mumbai cricket, is going to get the reward of the last two seasons of the Ranji Trophy. According to the information, the 24-year-old player is set to be selected for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh in November. The right-handed batsman scored 134 runs on the second day of the Ranji Trophy final against Madhya Pradesh at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
This was Sarfaraz’s fourth century of this Ranji season. During this, he has scored 937 runs in six matches at an average of 133.85 with the help of four centuries and two fifties. He has scored the most runs in this season of Ranji and there is no one around him. After this Chetan Bisht has scored 623 runs for Nagaland. In the 2019-20 season, Sarfaraz scored 928 runs in six matches at an average of 154.66 and with the help of three centuries.
Only two batsmen have scored more than 900 runs twice in a Ranji season and Ajay Sharma and Wasim Jaffer have done so. According to the Times of India report, a BCCI source has told that this Mumbai cricketer will get a chance in the series against Bangladesh. He said, “It is impossible to ignore him now. His performance speaks volumes of his immense potential. Putting pressure on many players present in the Indian team. He will be selected when the selectors select the Indian team for the Bangladesh test series. He did well for India A in South Africa last year and he is a great fielder.
After the end of the day’s play, national selector and former India left-arm spinner Sunil Joshi had a long conversation with Sarfaraz. Another selector in this was former India fast bowler Harvinder Singh. Regarding this, Sarfaraz said, “This is the first time I have spoken to the selectors. I enjoyed talking to Joshi and Harvinder sir. They were saying that Chandu sir (MP coach Chandrakant Pandit) had blocked my sweep shot, but I showed patience and didn’t play that shot. Was taking a single and didn’t come under pressure. He praised my innings.”
He is close to making it to the Test side but the batsman said that he is focusing on scoring runs. He said, “As far as the selection of Team India is concerned, I am working hard. My focus is only on scoring runs. Every person has dreams.” Please tell that Sarfaraz does not get much chance in IPL. He was part of the Rishabh Pant-led side in IPL 2022 but could play only a few matches.
