The sixth season of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) began with a dramatic match between defending champions Chepauk Super Gillies (CSG) and Nellai Royal Kings (NRK) on Thursday. Royal Kings won the Super Over after the match was tied. The team achieved the target of 10 runs with one ball remaining. Earlier, defending champions Chennai had got a target of 185 runs.
Five runs were needed to win off the last ball S Harish Kumar hit a boundary off V Athisayaraj Davidson, which tied the match. Another incident caught the attention of the people in this match. Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) player N Jagadeesan Mankading was out in the IPL. After this, he made obscene gestures by showing the middle finger.
It’s about the fourth over. Baba stayed undefeated before bowling the ball to Chepauk’s opener Kaushik Gandhi and blew up as soon as Jagadeesan came out of the crease. This angered the wicket-keeper batsman and while going into the dugout, Nellai made obscene gestures towards the players by showing the middle finger.
Jagadeesan has represented Tamil Nadu in 26 first-class, 36 List A and 45 T20 matches. There is every possibility that action will be taken against them for pointing out. Additionally the wicketkeeper-batsman is also a part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) since 2018 and has played in 2 matches in the recently concluded edition of the tournament.
Earlier in the game, NRK openers Lakshmesha Suryaprakash (62) and Sanjay Yadav (87) performed brilliantly with the bat to take the Royal Kings to a strong score of 184/4 in 20 overs. Captain Kaushik Gandhi (64) scored the most runs for the team from Super Gillies. Apart from this, S Harish Kumar (26 runs from 12 balls) scored fast in the last over, but could not win the team. The match ended in a tie and NRK won the Super Over.
