American billionaire Todd Boehli on Saturday bought Chelsea Football Club from Russian businessman Roman Abramovich for 4.25 billion pounds ($5.24 billion, about Rs 40,300 crore). Chelsea wrote on their website, “Chelsea Football Club confirms that the conditions have been finalized for handing over ownership of the club to a group led by Todd Boehli, Clearlake Capital, Mark Walter and Hansjörg Wies.”
The club said that the deal could be completed by the end of May if the British government allows transactions in Abramovich’s closed bank account in Britain. Abramovich announced he would sell the club in early March, shortly after the British government imposed personal sanctions on him for Russia’s military operation in Ukraine.
Since Abramovich bought Chelsea Football Club in 2003, Chelsea have won the English Football Championship five times, the English Cup three times, and the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League twice.
