The Bangladesh cricket team led by Shakib Al Hasan recorded an embarrassing record late on the night of 16 June 2022. His condition deteriorated in the first Test of the two-match series against West Indies. Bangladesh’s team was reduced to just 103 runs in the first innings. His 6 batsmen (Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mominul Haque, Nurul Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman, Khalid Ahmed) could not even open the account.
This happened in the second consecutive test match with the Bangladesh team. Earlier, in the second test match against Sri Lanka, 6 of his batsmen could not open the account. Bangladesh lost that Test match by 10 wickets. Bangladesh has become the first team in the history of Test cricket, whose 6 batsmen have returned to the pavilion without opening an account in two consecutive Test matches.
Talking about the match against West Indies, this poor condition of Bangladesh was due to Caribbean bowlers Jaden Seals, Alzarri Joseph, Kemar Roach and Kyle Meyers. Jaden Seals took 3 wickets for 33 runs in 10 overs. Alzarri Joseph also took 3 wickets in 8.5 overs giving the same number of runs. Meyers took 10 runs in 5 overs and Roach took 2-2 wickets for 21 runs in 8 overs.
Captain Shakib Al Hasan scored the highest 51 runs for Bangladesh. Apart from them, only opener Tamim Iqbal and wicketkeeper Liton Das could touch the double figure. Tamim was dismissed for 29 and Liton scored 12 runs. Mehdi Hasan and Ibadat Hossain were dismissed after scoring two and three runs respectively.
