A tragic incident happened on the field during the 17th match of the Women’s World Cup 2022. West Indies fast bowler Shamilia Connell fell down on the ground while fielding. The good thing is that nothing untoward happened and after a while the ambulance reached there. However, no official statement has been issued regarding his condition as of now.
On 18 March 2022, a match was played between the Bangladesh and West Indies women’s cricket teams at the Bay Oval Stadium in Mount Maunganui. Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana won the toss and elected to bowl. The West Indies team, who came to bat first, could only score 140 runs for 9 wickets in 50 overs. However, West Indies were able to defend the small target on the back of lethal bowling from Hayley Matthews, Effie Fletcher and captain Stafanie Taylor. Bangladesh’s team was bundled out for 136 runs in 49.3 overs.
The incident of Shamilia Connell falling on the ground after being dizzy happened during the 47th over of Bangladesh’s innings. The umpires stopped play after Connell fell on the ground and medical staff were called in. After Connell’s fall, his teammates were very worried.
However, then they heaved a sigh of relief, after first aid, Shamilia Connell herself walked to the ambulance. By the time the medical staff reached the field, the fellow players handled Shamilia. After a while the game started again and West Indies Captain Stephanie Taylor took the last wicket to win the last over for her team.
