New Delhi. The Supreme Court has given interim bail of 8 weeks to Ashish Mishra, son of Ajay Mishra Teni, Minister of State for Home in the Modi government. A two-judge bench headed by Justice Suryakant has given this bail. Some conditions have been imposed on Ashish Mishra for granting bail. Ashish Mishra will not be able to live in UP or Delhi during bail. Along with this, he will have to inform the court about his location. The bail will also be canceled for influencing the witnesses or obstructing the hearing of the case. Ashish Mishra was accused of crushing farmers to death with a Thar jeep along with his colleagues during the farmer’s movement. Ashish, however, had said that he was not present at the spot.
Ashish’s father Ajay Mishra Teni also called his son innocent. In this case, the Yogi government of UP had constituted the SIT. Ashish Mishra was arrested only after the SIT’s investigation. After Ashish’s arrest, bail applications were made several times, but the court did not grant him bail. Once even the UP government had opposed giving bail to Ashish. During the last hearing, the Supreme Court had said that the accused cannot be kept in jail for a long time. The court had asked the lower court when the trial would start in this case.
The opposition was continuously putting pressure on Ashish Mishra’s father Ajay Mishra Teni to resign from the post of Union Minister of State for Home after he was accused of running over farmers with a Thar jeep. Opposition leaders had also raised questions with PM Narendra Modi for not taking Teni’s resignation. On this, it was said on behalf of the government and the BJP that if Tenni’s son has committed a crime, then how can his father be punished for the son’s actions. However, in this matter, the opposition was in attack mode for a long time. Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait was also targeting Teni and Modi along with the opposition.
