This fire has temporarily threatened the nuclear plant and the liquefied natural gas plant. The fire started on Friday morning in the hills of Uljin city on the beach and has now spread over an area of about three thousand hectares.
This massive fire has reached near the city of Samchiok and so far 90 houses and other buildings have been destroyed in its grip. So far around 6,000 people have been shifted to safer places by the administration.
However, there were no reports of casualties in the incident so far, South Korea’s Interior and Security Ministry officials said. He said they are investigating the cause of the fire. He said the fire was spreading rapidly due to strong winds and dry weather.
More than 1,950 firefighters and soldiers, 51 helicopters and 273 other vehicles were engaged in dousing the blaze on Saturday morning, officials said. He said firefighters carried out an overnight operation to stop the flames from reaching the LNG production facility in Samchiok.
