Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh is preparing vigorously for the Punjab Assembly elections. Meanwhile, news came that he had been declared ‘Tankhaiya’ by Jathedar Dhyan Singh Mand, the ‘executive parallel’ of the Akal Takht. Despite this announcement, Amarinder Singh does not seem worried, but has kept the entire focus on the elections. Amarinder Singh is busy increasing his political clan and giving shocks to the Congress. In the latest case, Congress leader Prince Khullar has also joined Amarinder’s hand. In such a situation, questions arise that why they are not worried about it even after being declared ‘Tankhaiya’?
What is the reason for this carelessness?
Seeing the behavior of Amarinder Singh even after being declared a Tankhaiya, you will understand that he is not taking it seriously at all. The reason for this is that there is no official existence of this order. Actually, the official (elected) Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht at Takht Sri Harmandir Sahib is Giani Harpreet Singh and he has not announced ‘Tankhaiya’.
This has been announced by ‘Executive Parallel’ Jathedar Dhyan Singh Mand of Akal Takht. This means that Mand’s own rights as a Jathedar are controversial.
The appointment of Mand is considered controversial, hence he is seen as a ‘parallel’ Jathedar. According to the personal assistant of Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh, Mand does not enter the Akal Takht but outside and has the same status as other Sikhs. He clarified that the ‘Parallel’ Jathedar does not have the right to make any announcement. Even if he makes any announcement, it will not be considered official.
What’s the matter?
In fact, in the year 2018, when Captain Amarinder Singh was the Chief Minister of Punjab, many Sikh organizations had protested against the desecration case of Guru Granth Sahib in 2018. During this, he had demanded that the culprits of the sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib in 2015 should be punished at the earliest. This protest was led by Dhyan Singh Mand. In December 2018, this sit-in demonstration was called off after the assurance of the Captain. Amarinder Singh was accompanied by other cabinet ministers then.
Till now, there is no talk of not taking any action in this matter. Now Charanjit Singh Channi is in power, but Navjot Singh Sidhu has accused him of not taking action.
Meanwhile, ahead of the Punjab elections, Captain Amarinder Singh has been convicted in the Bargadi sacrilege case for ending the agitation by giving “false assurances” and for not taking any action. On the same charge, he has been declared a tanker.
What does tankaya mean?
According to Sikhism, Tankhayya means to be expelled from Sikhism. If a Sikh has been declared a Tankhaiyya, then no Sikh will have any contact or relationship with him. No one can take part in any program here.
After being declared a tankhaiyah, he can apologize to the nearest Sikh community. After this it is reviewed and there is a provision of punishment accordingly. After the completion of the sentence, the paycheck is removed.
Who can announce it?
Tankhaiya is announced by the supreme body of the Sikh sect, but in Amarinder Singh’s case it is announced by a ‘parallel’ Jathedar. Had Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh made this announcement, it would have been given full importance, which would have increased the difficulties of Amarinder Singh in the elections. In that situation, he would not get the support of the Sikhs of Punjab and neither would any Sikh appear in his rally.
It seems that even Amarinder Singh is aware that Mand’s announcement will not affect his election preparations.
