Lucknow. In the case of violence and stone pelting in several cities including Prayagraj and Saharanpur in UP, the police have intensified arrests. Till Friday evening, 109 rioters had been arrested. By late night, the number of arrests had gone up to 136. Whereas, till 7 am today, 227 rioters had been arrested from 6 districts of UP. According to government sources, maximum 68 rioters were arrested in Prayagraj. The number of people arrested in Hathras is 50. At the same time, 48 rioters were arrested in Saharanpur, 28 in Ambedkarnagar, 25 in Moradabad and 8 in Firozabad till morning.
After Friday prayers in these district headquarters of UP, the crowd created a lot of nuisance. Stones were pelted on the police and arson was also done. People were opposing the comments of Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal, who were in BJP, about Prophet Mohammad. During the violence, small children were pelted with stones. Even after this, the police did not spare those who spread violence anywhere. UP DGP Devendra Singh Chouhan had clearly said that no innocent will be persecuted, but the rioters are not well.

After the incidents of violence and stone pelting, UP CM Yogi Adityanath had asked the administration of all the districts that the rioters should not be spared under any circumstances. After the meeting, Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya had also said that UP has not been a state where rioters were forgiven and forgotten. He had said that the culprits would not be spared under any circumstances. After Yogi’s strong attitude, the police had launched an overnight arrest campaign in the violence-hit districts. Police sources have said that more people are yet to be arrested.
