The court on Thursday formally convicted Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik. Earlier, Malik had confessed to his crime on a retrospective date on all charges under the stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in the terror funding case.
The court of Special Judge Praveen Singh at Patiala House directed the NIA officials to assess Malik’s financial condition to determine the amount of fine and adjourn the matter till May 25 for arguments on the sentence. Malik had told the court that he did not want to face the charges leveled against him. In which sections 16 (terrorist act), 17 (raising funds for terrorist act), 18 (conspiracy to commit terrorist acts) and 20 (being a member of terrorist gang or organization) of UAPA and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and IPC Section 124-A (sedition) is included.
The court had earlier formally against Kashmiri separatist leaders including Farooq Ahmed Dar alias Bitta Karate, Shabir Shah, Masarat Alam, Mohammad Yusuf Shah, Aftab Ahmed Shah, Altaf Ahmed Shah, Naeem Khan, Mohammad Akbar Khande, Raja Mehrajuddin Kalwal Charges were framed. Bashir Ahmed Bhat, Zahoor Ahmed Shah Watali, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Abdul Rashid Sheikh and Naval Kishore Kapoor. The chargesheet was also filed against Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) founder Hafiz Saeed and Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin, who have been declared absconders in the case.
