The government said on Tuesday that properties worth Rs 19,111 crore have been attached so far of fugitives Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi.
What did the government say: Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Choudhary said in Rajya Sabha that three fugitives misappropriated money to public sector banks through their companies. Due to this, the lenders have suffered a total loss of Rs 22,585.83 crore. “As on March 15, 2022, assets worth Rs 19,111.20 crore have been attached under the provisions of PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act),” he said.
Minister Pankaj Choudhary said that out of Rs 19,111.20 crore, assets worth Rs 15,113.91 crore have been restored to public sector banks. In addition, the Minister said that the Government of India has confiscated assets worth Rs 335.06 crore.

Earlier, the Center had informed the Supreme Court that Rs 18,000 crore has been returned to banks from Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi. Mallya is wanted in India to face charges of fraud and money laundering and remains on bail in the UK. After his extradition to India was ordered by the UK government in February 2019, Mallya exhausted all legal avenues to oppose the order in British courts.
