Group Captain Varun Singh, who was injured in a helicopter crash in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu, has died. On 8 December, CDS Bipin Rawat’s helicopter crashed in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. 13 people including Bipin Rawat and his wife were killed in the accident and Varun Singh was the only survivor. However, on Wednesday, he too lost his battle in the face of death.
The IAF tweeted that the Indian Air Force was “deeply saddened” to learn that the captain of the group died during treatment today. He was the only survivor of the accident that took place on December 8, 2021. Air Force officers mourn his passing and stand with him and his family in this tragic situation.

Captain Varun Singh was a resident of village Kanholi, Khorma, Dwaria, UP. He was undergoing treatment at the Army Hospital in Bangalore. Varun was a batchmate of Group Captain Abhinandan Varthaman. Abhinandan Varthaman intercepted a Pakistani aircraft entering Indian territory on February 27, 2019. Captain Varun Singh was born in Delhi. He was 42 years old. His father Krishna Pratap Singh retired as a colonel in the army. Varun’s younger brother Tanuj Singh is in the Navy in Mumbai. His wife Geetanjali has a son Riddha Raman and a daughter Aaradhya.
