In Mehsana, while eating food at the wedding of the son of a local Congress leader, more than 1200 people fell ill and had to be admitted to the hospital. The police gave this information on Saturday.
An official of Visnagar Rural Police Station said that the incident took place late Friday night in Sawla village of Visnagar taluka. Mehsana Superintendent of Police Partharajsinh Gohil said over 1200 people fell ill after having the food at the wedding and had to be hospitalised. He said that people complained of vomiting and diarrhea after consuming the food, after which they had to be admitted to the hospital. All have been admitted to various hospitals in Visnagar, Mehsana and Vadnagar. He said that the samples have been collected by the Forensic Science Laboratory and the Food and Drug Department for testing the food served at the wedding ceremony.
Visnagar Rural Police said that there was a marriage of a local Congress leader’s son in Savla village, in which many people attended. There was also non-vegetarian food at the wedding. The case is being investigated.
