A Maharashtra court has refused pre-arrest bail to a man accused of hiding homosexuality from his wife. It is alleged that a 32-year-old man from Navi Mumbai hid his homosexuality while cheating on his wife and also showed her a fake job offer “to impress”. The wife has alleged that he (husband) took his gay companions along on their honeymoon as well.
Dismissing the application, Thane Additional Sessions Court Judge RS Gupta observed: “Prima facie it appears that the accused has committed fraud with intent to commit fraud, by causing wrongful financial loss to the parents of the complainant and also to the cause of the complainant. It is a fraud by causing irreparable damage to life.”
According to the Times of India report, the accused and the complainant (30) got married last November after meeting online. In the FIR, the woman alleged that she came to know about his sexual orientation through WhatsApp messages and videos on her mobile phone. It turned out that he was in a relationship with two men from Mumbai. When his wife asked him about it, he attacked him with a knife.
The woman’s lawyer Sagar Kadam told that before marriage the accused showed her a fake job offer letter of Rs 14 lakh per annum salary. Along with Kadam, prosecutor VA Kulkarni told that the accused suppressed the fact that he was gay before marriage and cheated the complainant. The defense counsel submitted that the intention was to defame and harass her and sought relief.
