Srinagar. Police and security forces have gunned down three wanted terrorists of banned outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (TRF) in Srinagar. Officials gave this information on Wednesday. According to officials, all three were involved in the recent murder of Khanmoh’s sarpanch Sameer Ahmed Bhat.
Police said that based on a specific input about the presence of terrorists in Nowgam area of Srinagar, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by the police and the army.
During the search operation, as the security forces moved towards the suspected spot, the terrorists hiding there opened indiscriminate fire. After retaliation, the encounter started. Later CRPF also joined this operation.
“Three terrorists were killed in the encounter and their bodies were recovered from the encounter site,” police said.
The slain terrorists have been identified as Adil Nabi Teli, a resident of Galchibal Chandra in Pampore, Shakir Ahmed Tantre, a resident of Ronipora Shopian, and Yasir Ahmed Wage, a resident of Kujer Frisal, Kulgam.
Police said, “As per police records, the slain terrorists were associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba and were active since last year. They were part of groups involved in several criminal cases including attacks on police/security forces and atrocities on civilians. “
Earlier, J&K Police tweeted quoting Kashmir Zone IGP Vijay Kumar, “Terrorists of banned terrorist organization Lashkar/TRF involved in the recent killing of Sarpanch of Khanmoh, Sameer Bhat, killed in Nowgam encounter.”
Police said, “Terrorist Adil Teli along with his associates was also involved in the murder of Inspector Parvez Ahmed Dar at Menganwari Nowgam and Javed Ahmed Malik at Lurgam Tral on 22/06/2021. In addition, he was also involved in a grenade attack. He had attacked a joint team of police and CRPF in Berbarshah, Srinagar, killing one civilian and injuring three.
“Similarly, terrorists Shakir Ahmed and Yasir Ahmed were involved in several terror activities including the killing of ASI Mohammad Ashraf near PS Bijbehara, Anantnag on 22/12/2021,” he added.
Incriminating material, arms and ammunition, one AK rifle, three AK magazines, 14 AK rounds, two pistols, four pistol magazines and six pistol rounds were recovered from the encounter site.
