Two Methods for Appointment to the Post of Officer
After passing class 12th, candidates can join the army in three ways. These include UPSC NDA Exam, Indian Army Tech Entry Scheme (Technical Scheme Exam) and Army Recruitment Rally. National Defense Academy Exam
National Defense Academy entrance exam for Army recruitment i.e. NDA exam is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. UPSC NDA entrance exam is conducted twice a year. Under this, candidates are also enrolled in the Naval Academy. Candidates who successfully complete their three-year training join the Indian Army and Navy as officers. NDA entrance exam candidates should be 12th pass and their age should be between 16.5 years to 19.5 years.
Indian Army Technical Entry Scheme (Technical Scheme Exam)
The second medium to join the Indian Army for the post of officer after 12th is the Technical Entry Scheme. Under this, recruitment takes place twice a year through a short entrance examination. Applicants under this scheme should be at least 16.5 years old and not more than 19.5 years old. Candidates must have Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics (PCM) as one of the subjects in class 12th with at least 70% marks.
