Former India captain Kapil Dev had said in the past that if Virat Kohli is not in form then why can’t he be dropped from the T20 team. The World Cup winning captain has once again made a statement and said that he cannot say that a big player like Virat should be dropped. Also advised Virat Kohli to play Ranji Trophy to regain form. He said this regarding the selection of India’s T20 team for the West Indies series. Virat and Jasprit Bumrah have been rested for this series.
Kapil said that if the selectors are saying that Virat has been rested and not dropped, then it should be accepted as Kohli is a big player. He said on ABP News, “I cannot say that a big player like Virat Kohli should be dropped. He is a big player. If you have said that he has been given rest to pay respect, then there is nothing wrong in it.”
Kapil said that if Kohli wants to return to good form, he should practice more and play as many matches as possible. Kapil believes that the selectors should not choose the team on the basis of who is a big player or not. He said, “The most important thing is how to bring such a player into form? He is not an ordinary cricketer. He should practice more and play more matches to get his form back.
Kapil further said, “I don’t think there is any player in this world who is bigger than Kohli in T20, but when you are not doing well the selectors can take their own decision. My thinking is that if someone is not doing well they can be rested or dropped.
Kapil advised Kohli to play Ranji Trophy and also said that great players are those who do not take much time to make a comeback. He said, “Maybe play Ranji Trophy or score runs anywhere. They need to gain confidence. This is the difference between a great and a good player. A great player like him shouldn’t take that long to get back in form. They have to fight with themselves and settle things.”
