Union Minister Narayan Rane and his son and MLA Nitesh Rane were interrogated for nine hours on Saturday at the Malvani police station here in connection with the Disha Salian death case. The case pertains to the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s alleged derogatory remarks about the death of former manager Disha Salian.
Former Shiv Sena leader and now BJP leader Narayan Rane and his son Nitesh reached the police station at around 2.45 pm, a police official said. During this, a large number of his supporters also gathered outside the police station. Both the father and son recorded their statements in the defamation case before the investigating officer till 10:45 pm. According to sources, both have vehemently denied the allegations leveled against them.
Malvani police had sent notices to Nitesh Rane on Thursday and asked his father Narayan Rane to appear before the investigating officer on Friday. But, Nitesh Rane had said to appear before the police along with his father on Saturday, citing the ongoing session of the Maharashtra Legislature. The local court has granted interim protection from arrest to Narayan Rane and his son till March 10.
It is noteworthy that a few days before the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, Disha Salian allegedly committed suicide by jumping from a multi-storey building in suburban Malad on June 08, 2020.
The Union minister, who came out of the police station after recording the statement, told reporters that after the death of Salian and Sushant Singh Rajput, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray called him twice and requested not to speak anything about Salian’s death. However, officials of the Chief Minister’s Office or a Shiv Sena spokesperson were not immediately available for comment.
