Islamabad: After the general election results in Pakistan, the political clouds surrounding government formation have now dissipated. An agreement has been reached between Pakistan’s two major parties, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). Shahbaz Sharif will be the Prime Minister of this alliance. According to Geo News report, top leaders of PPP and PML-N confirmed that they are joining the alliance to form the government in the larger interest of the country.
Asif Ali Zardari will be the presidential candidate
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto confirmed that Shehbaz Sharif would be the coalition’s candidate for the post of Prime Minister and Asif Ali Zardari would be the joint candidate for the post of President of the country. “Pakistan People’s Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz now have the full numbers and we are in a position to form the next government,” Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said at a press conference. He said that both the parties will form the next government to take the country out of the current crisis and expressed hope that they will be able to do so. “We have agreed that we have to ensure the success of Pakistan for future generations,” he said.
Bilawal’s party has not demanded any ministry – Shahbaz
Responding to a question on whether the PPP was getting any portfolio, Shahbaz said the Bilawal-led party has not demanded any ministry from day one, Geo News reported. He said, “There are talks between the two parties and issues are resolved through mutual dialogue. It does not mean that we accept their demands or they accept our demands. They have their own views.” But reaching the realm of consensus is the real political success.
No party got a clear majority in the general elections
Let us tell you that no political party got a simple majority in the elections held on February 8. Since then there was a situation of uncertainty. Later both these parties were forced to join hands to come to power, but the delay in the agreement had raised questions. In the general elections, independent candidates supported by PTI had won the maximum of 92 seats. PML-N won 79 seats and PPP won 54 seats. (Input-ANI)
