What does the former Chief Election Commissioner of the country say?
In such a situation, former Chief Election Commissioner of the country SY Qureshi says in a conversation with News 18 Hindi, ‘See, being a star campaigner does not mean that he is above the law. If the Election Commission has issued instructions, then it is the job of the Election Commission to follow them. If star campaigners have got SPG security or Z category security, then even star campaigners are not exempted from this. Keeping any amount of more than Rs 1 lakh should not have anything to do with security. Yes, there should be no compromise of any kind in whoever has got security. No such instruction was ever issued during our time. We were thinking that star campaigners would also roam around with more money. The Election Commission must have caught someone, after which it has issued this instruction.
Let us tell you that in this Lok Sabha election, the Election Commission has decided that any star campaigner can keep up to Rs 1 lakh in his pocket. According to the Election Commission, a candidate of any party cannot keep more than Rs 50 thousand in his pocket and the star campaigner who has come to campaign for him cannot keep more than Rs 1 lakh in his pocket. If more than the prescribed amount is recovered, the amount will definitely be confiscated. Along with this, action will be sent against that person.
The Election Commission has also given instructions that the candidates will keep a separate register for their daily expenses.
