Choubey was elected MLA for the first time in the year 2017. Choubey, 47, came into the limelight during the election campaign when he was seen holding an ear on the stage during an election rally and apologizing to the voters of his constituency by holding sit-ins. A few days later, during a door-to-door campaign, he was seen massaging an elderly voter who was suffering from pain in his legs and lower back. Choubey met him and applied ointment on his body.
