Apple was recently rumored to be working on a hardware subscription service, a plan aimed at renting out iPhones or iPads to people on a monthly basis. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said this iPhone subscription would include more costs with monthly installments. They now have more clarity about how an Apple subscription will work, and more importantly, what the subscription prices will be. Gurman has indicated that the overall cost of the iPhone you buy under the subscription plan will be higher than the upfront price you are paying.
According to Gurman, the subscription will provide customers with a new Apple product to rent for 12, 24 and 36 months. It can be iPhone, iPad or MacBook. He took the example of the iPhone 13 to illustrate how subscription costs would work. Gurman pointed out that monthly subscriptions for the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max could cost $35, $45 and $50, respectively, in the US.
So, if a user subscribes to the iPhone service for a maximum tenure of 36 months – 3 years – he will get $1,260 instead of $799 for Apple iPhone 13, $1,620 instead of $999 for iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. Might have to spend $1,800 instead of $1,099.
Apple is preparing to sell its software as well as hardware products on subscription. Apple’s software products such as Apple Music, iCloud, Apple TV Plus, Apple Fitness Plus and Apple Arcade require a monthly subscription. Similarly, Apple’s iPhone and iPad can also be purchased on monthly subscription in the coming times.
