In this regard, WhatsApp is also showing notifications to the users, in which information has been given about why the legal name is necessary for the users. To prevent fraud on the messaging app, the company says the move will be beneficial and the requirement of the name Neegle is in line with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) guidelines. With this, users will be able to know the user ID or legal name even before making payments to cyber criminals.
How will WhatsApp know about the users name?
The payments app says that it uses the phone numbers associated with users’ WhatsApp accounts to identify their bank account numbers. The name associated with the bank account is the name that will be shared. That is, since the legion name is shared by the users paying on behalf of WhatsApp, it will show the same name which will be entered on your WhatsApp and the same name will be in the bank account.
WhatsApp allows users to choose any name of up to 25 characters on the app as their profile name. Users can also add emoji to their profile name.
