45 per cent of the candidates who won the recently concluded assembly elections in five states have criminal cases registered against them. ADR has analyzed the self-attested affidavits of all the 690 winning candidates in the assembly elections of Goa, Manipur, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. It has said that out of 690 candidates, 219 (32 per cent) winning candidates have declared serious criminal cases against themselves. It said that out of 312 winning candidates who declared criminal cases against them, 134 were from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), 71 of Samajwadi Party (SP), 52 of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), 24 from Congress and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD). ) has seven candidates.
About 87 percent of the winning candidates are millionaires
The ADR said that around 87 per cent or 598 winning candidates are crorepatis and the average assets of a winning candidate is Rs 8.7 crore. It said that 40 per cent of the winning candidates in Goa declared criminal cases against themselves, while 33 per cent declared serious criminal cases. In Uttar Pradesh, 51 per cent of the winning candidates declared criminal cases, while 39 per cent declared serious criminal cases against themselves, the ADR said.
Criminal cases against 50 percent winning candidates in Punjab
Similarly, in Punjab, 50 per cent of the winning candidates declared criminal cases while 23 per cent declared serious criminal cases against themselves, it said. The ADR said that 27 per cent of the winning candidates in Uttarakhand elections have declared criminal cases against themselves and 14 per cent have serious criminal cases, while 23 per cent candidates who won Manipur elections have criminal cases against them, while 18 per cent have serious criminal cases against themselves. declared.
