Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of hatching a conspiracy to make Mumbai a Union Territory. Raut on Friday claimed that a presentation to this effect has been made to the Home Ministry. Raut told reporters in Mumbai that former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya and a group of party leaders, builders, businessmen are part of this conspiracy.
Raut said, “The presentation (by this group) regarding making Mumbai a Union Territory has been given to the Home Ministry. Meetings have been held and funds are being collected for this work. I am saying this with accountability. I have evidence to prove my point. The Chief Minister (Uddhav Thackeray) is also aware of this.”
The percentage of Marathi people in Mumbai is very less so…
The Shiv Sena MP claimed that there is a possibility that the Somaiya-led group will go to court in the next few months to say that the percentage of Marathi people in Maharashtra’s capital Mumbai has come down drastically. Therefore the city should be made a union territory under the rule of the central government. Raut said Somaiya had earlier challenged the state government’s decision to make Marathi a compulsory language in schools.
