Sarpanch Jogaram, who had come to see the annual fair held in Hiroli village of Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh, was murdered late in the evening by the Naxalites by slitting his throat with a sharp weapon. According to the information, the annual fair Mandai was organized in village Hiroli on Tuesday, in which Sirha-priests, including villagers from far-flung places, had arrived with a doli and umbrella of deities. On Thursday evening the deities were bid farewell. A banquet was also organized on this occasion.
During this, the Sarpanch of Hiroli village was also having food with other villagers. Naxalites also reached there in rural garb. At around seven in the evening, six Naxalites killed him by slitting his throat with sharp weapons. There was panic on the spot after the incident. Meanwhile, taking advantage of the crowd, the Maoists easily left for the forests.
Regarding the incident, Dantewada SP Siddharth Tiwari said that the Maoists have also left a form in the name of Gangalur Area Committee at the spot. At present the incident is being investigated. Let us tell you that this is the second incident in a week in different areas of Bastar when Maoists have killed someone in the middle of the fair. Earlier also a city soldier was killed by Maoists at the annual fair in Kanker district.
It is being said in some media reports that the Maoists suspected that the sarpanch was a police informer. Due to this suspicion, the Naxalites have carried out this massacre.
