Police have arrested a juvenile for allegedly stabbing a 19-year-old youth to death after a fight near the Signature Bridge in North East Delhi. The deceased was identified as Ramjani. The police solved the case in just a few hours after examining the CCTV footage as well as questioning about 350 people.
On Sunday, they received information about a murder at Shastri Park police station, police said. His medical examination revealed that he died of a stab wound to the neck.
According to the police, when Abhishek, Ramjani and their friends were returning from Yamuna Ghat after immersing the idol of Saraswati, a man stopped them and asked them for a gamchha. On refusing to give him a gamchha, he started beating Abhishek.
Seeing this Ramjani slapped the man, who then ran away and after a while returned with some of his companions, they started beating Abhishek and Ramjani. A senior police officer said that suddenly one of them pulled out a knife and stabbed Ramjani in the back and they all fled.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Sanjay Kumar Sen said that on getting information about the incident, the police team scanned the CCTV footage of all possible escape routes of the accused. Simultaneously, several Saraswati Puja groups were contacted across the city. About 350 people who went to Yamuna Ghat that day were questioned.
Finally, after tireless efforts of the police team, a group of accused boys whose actions were found suspicious in the CCTV footage were taken into custody. They had come from Vikaspuri for idol immersion. Based on the lead, various people in the group were questioned. The call detail records of various people who visited the place that day were scanned and one of them was identified as a juvenile.
During interrogation of Kishor, it was found that when he was going to Yamuna Ghat for idol immersion along with his friends, he had taken a kitchen knife with him. The officer said that the deceased and his friend Abhishek were quarreling with some boys, when they interfered, they were also misbehaved, on which he got angry and stabbed Ramjani.
